In 57 B.C. Julius Caesar conquered ancient Gaul.
The Romans ruled our region for more than four centuries, which led to the so-called "Romanization" of the local population.
The Romans introduced new technologies, built roads and cities (Tongres, Nimegen, Trier, ..)
The Rhine formed the natural boundary with the territory of the Germanic tribes, who regularly crossed it to loot.
That's why the Romans encamped many legions at the Rhine.
The Romans emphatically left their marks in this region, as is proved by several settlements.
From the exhibited objects, like coins, mantle-pins, oil-lamps, earthenware, glassware, tools, idols, ... it becomes evident how advanced their culture was.
